Indoor care & maintenance

Designed and constructed to last, a small amount of attention will maintain the quality of your garden furniture.

Solid Timber or Timber Veneer

All Kett timber furniture is finished in a low odour, low VOC, 2k water borne urethane. It’s an ultra-low gloss system and is best cleaned with a warm, damp microfiber cloth (this is the safest for all furniture). No waxes, polishes or silicone finishes as these may cause permanent damage or colour variation to your furniture and will eventually polish the surface.

Timber is a natural product that will respond to its environmental conditions. We recommend you avoid extreme variation in temperature and humidity as well as contact with liquids and heat. Regularly wipe timber to remove dust and dirt. Do not leave liquid to sit on timber surfaces as it may penetrate and cause staining. Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth. The tone of the timber will alter over time with exposure to UV light, please protect timber from direct or reflected sunlight. Take care when placing or moving items with an irregular base finish as they may scratch the surface.

Leather

Leather is a natural product characterised by the unique tone and individual markings that the animal has acquired during its life which may include creases and stretch marks, scars and insect bites. Some softening and stretching of the leather is to be expected with use. Wipe leather with a clean, damp cloth on a weekly basis to remove dust and dirt particles that can work their way into the hide and abrade the surface. To treat difficult stains, we recommend contacting a specialist leather cleaner who can also assist with regular treatment of the leather to nourish and prolong the life of leather upholstery.

Marble

Marble is a naturally porous material, making it susceptible to staining as it has an increased absorbency. It is essential that no liquids are left to sit on marble as they will penetrate the stone and cause staining. Acidic liquids (orange juice, wine etc.) should be avoided as they react with marble and can deteriorate the finish. Wipe up spills immediately with a cloth and warm water. Do not place hot items directly on to the surface, this may cause the marble to crack. Clean regularly with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Do not use chemical products for cleaning marble that contain acid as they can cause permanent staining. Do not use scourers or any type of abrasive product to clean the marble.

Fabrics

Vacuum fabrics on a weekly basis to remove dust, dirt and any loose feathers. Treat spills and stains as soon as possible by wiping with a damp cloth, do not treat with chemical cleaners or scrub as this can alter the fabric’s appearance. We recommend contacting a specialist fabric cleaner to treat difficult stains. To prolong the life of your upholstery, we recommend annual cleaning by a specialist fabric cleaner. Direct sunlight may cause colour change and ageing of your fabric, for best performance we recommend positioning your furniture out of direct UV light.

Porcelain

Porcelain is suitable for internal and external use. Panels are stain resistant, being a non-porous material but normal daily care must be taken to immediately clean up stains. The best method to minimise stubborn stains is to immediately wash away stains such as red wine, food, oils, drinks by using warm water and a soft non-abrasive cloth. Small variations such as pinholes and surface and colour imperfections are characteristics of the porcelain product.

Cushions

Regularly shape and rotate loose cushions where applicable to maintain their shape and loft. Some movement may occur with loose covers as they are designed for a relaxed look and feel. It is natural that cushion fillings will settle and seat foams will soften over time. Scatter inserts can be invigorated by laying them out in the sun to air. While specialised fabrics have been selected to contain feathers in compartments, occasionally feather quills can pierce through the covers. They can be simply removed by pulling the feather.

Outdoor care & maintenance

Designed and constructed to last, a small amount of attention will maintain the quality of your furniture.

Stainless Steel

If any aesthetic rust or brown spots appear they can be easily cleaned by gently working in the direction of the brushed finish, with a Scotchbrite pad. If these deposits are allowed to build up over time, clean the product more thoroughly with a Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polisher, which restores the new look of stainless steel furniture and creates a surface that repels dirt and water.

Powder Coat

Avoid contact with liquids, heat, bird droppings and direct sunlight. Regularly wipe with a damp soft cloth to remove particles which can abrade the surface with wear. Abrasive cleaning products are not recommended.

Standard Foam Inner

Cushions should be brought inside over the winter months or if heavy rain is expected to ensure long life. If cushions get very wet, remove the cover and allow the foam to dry separately to prevent mould from developing.

Woven Furniture

We recommend that woven furniture is regularly cleaned using a Sling & Woven Cleaner, following the instructions detailed on the label. It is important to use a non-foaming cleaner on woven furniture, as a foaming product will leave residues in the gaps in-between the weave which will then attract dirt. A pressure hose on a low setting is acceptable to use on woven furniture, but avoid any teak components, as the high pressure can damage the surface of the timber.

Outdoor Fabrics

Kett Fabric Collections consist of 100% solution-dyed acrylic or olefin fibre; resist fading from the sun, water and general atmospheric agents. Vacuum cushions to remove any surface dust. Most spot stains on fabrics can be cleaned by rubbing with room temperature water and natural soap. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap. Cushions which are zip-off can be machine washed. Do not wash at greater than 30°c. Cushions should be air dried. Do not steam iron or dry with heating elements. When putting cushion covers back onto foams, do so whilst the covers are still slightly damp to assist forming to the foam inner cushion.

Porcelain

Porcelain is suitable for internal and external use. Panels are stain resistant, being a non-porous material but normal daily care must be taken to immediately clean up stains. Best method to minimise stubborn stains is to immediately wash away stains such as red wine, food, oils, drinks by using warm water and a soft non-abrasive cloth. Small variations such as pinholes and surface and colour imperfections are characteristics of the porcelain product.

Batyline Sling

Batyline is resistant to fading, mildew, wear & tear, even under the most severe weather conditions, requiring only occasional cleaning with a mild soap and water.

Use a non-foaming cleaner on Batyline, as a foaming product will leave residue in the gaps in-between the weave which will then attract dirt. A pressure hose on a low setting is acceptable to use on sling furniture, but avoid any teak components as the high pressure can damage the surface of the timber.

For long-term revitalization, we recommend that sling furniture is cleaned using a Sling & Woven Cleaner from your product retailer, (following the instructions detailed on the label) to keep it looking as good as new.

Teak

We recommend that you allow your teak furniture to weather naturally and simply clean thoroughly once or twice a year with a Teak Cleaner.

When storing Teak furniture we advise that it’s best stored in a sealed garage or similar.Do not move teak furniture from outside straight into a heated indoor room. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity may cause the wood to split.

To protect teak surfaces from staining, maintain the silver-grey patina on weathered teak, protect the wood against the ingress of moisture, the adhesion of dirt and prevent mildew, we recommend using a Teak Protector.

If you wish to retain the golden-brown colour of new teak we also offer a Teak Protector, Cleaner and Renewer. You will be embarking on a regular maintenance programme as products will regularly need to be re-applied to provide continuous protection.
