The Frame Living System, designed by Justin Hutchinson for Kett – was shortlisted in the  2020 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

Launched by inside magazine in 2003, the IDEA awards celebrate the best of Australian interior and product design. With hundreds of entries, and judged by a panel of design industry professionals, the IDEA awards has become one of the most prestigious design awards in Australia. The Frame Living System has been shortlisted in the Professional Object, Furniture & Lighting category.

2020 Idea Awards was held at the Timber Yard in Collingwood

Frame was created from an understanding of how our lives are changing, and a need for indoor furniture to adapt to it. Homes are getting smaller, people are moving more often, renting more regularly – and technology is at the centre of how our daily lives operate.

Frame Living System  integrates storage and technology into a seamless furniture solution. Consisting of a diverse collection of joinery modules, Frame allows you to create joinery to go on any wall of the house and take it with you when you move. Frame is available in a wide range of functions and luxurious finishes, and can be tailored to complement every space, a personalised answer to furniture and joinery needs.

Frame defines the room by allowing the surrounding walls to express the space, making this living system much lighter than traditional wall-to-wall joinery. Frame has a range of shelves, drawers and cabinet options to produce extra storage and feature zones for displaying personal treasures. The in-built cavity allows the streamlining of technology by hiding power points and messy cabling.

Frame Living System is the outcome of research into innovative connection systems that afford an exact and robust method of installation for many interior walls, from plasterboard through to masonry.

Sustainability and health were key considerations in the development, with materials free of formaldehyde, phenols, solvents, PVC or melamine.

The Frame panelling is available in four rich tones, Natural Oak, Light Walnut, Charcoal Oak and Exhibition. The three soft-touch porcelains Calacatta Oro Venato, Bianco Statuario Venato and Nero Greco – boast a marble-like appearance but are not porous and easy to clean. The silky powder coats feature signature Kett colours City, Ocean and Mangrove, that reflect the colours of the Australian landscape, alongside essential basics Black and White. Frame makes joinery simple, with an outcome that is built for your space and tastes.

A result of countless hours of research, planning, experimentation, designing (and re-designing), prototyping and finessing – the result is a beautiful and innovative approach to custom joinery, designed and made in Australia.

The 2020 IDEA awards are judged by Andrew Parr of SJB, Anna Spiro of Anna Spiro Design, Hana Hakim of The Stella Collective, Jeremy bull of Alexander & Co, Rachel Luchetti of Luchetti Krelle, Simone Haag of Simone Haag, and Brendan Wong of Brendan Wong Design.
